Herbs are used in cuisines the world over. These herbs are used not only for aroma and flavors but also for curing many ailments. In case of colds and fevers , many times these herbs helps in relieving the symptoms.Ayurveda and Chinese medicinal system have used herbs in their medicines since a long time.
Now science is proving the therapeutic properties of these herbs and spices through researches.The aromatic compounds and volatile essential oils imparts rich and fresh aroma as well antioxidant, anti inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties to these spices.
Fenugreek is used as leaves as well as seeds. It grows in the form of small plants and is a legume.It is known to help in increasing breast milk supply though clinically it is not proven. Fenugreek is also helpful in colds as it helps in relieving the congestion.It also helps in lowering cholesterol and blood glucose level.digestion is improved by consuming the fenugreek. Fenugreek extracted oil is alsp known to posses antimicrobial and antioxidant.
For cold: It can be taken in the form of tea. Take a cup of water and boil it. Simmer one tsp of fenugreek seeds for five minutes in it and drink.
Cloves are dried and unopened flower buds of plant considered native to Indonesia. Known for their exotic scent, cloves are also used in many medicines. Main compound responsible for the flavor of clove is eugenol.Clove oil is used in Indian as well as Chinese medicine. It is also used as pain killer in dentistry. Cloves are also used for treating cold. It is known to be having warm effects. It is used in very small quantity.It also helps in improving digestion. Cloves helps in secretion of digestive enzymes.Helps in relieving inflammation.
Cardamom have fresh and exotic flavor which is used in Indian cuisine and Ayurveda since thousands of years. It is used in savory as well as sweet dishes. Other than imparting flavors, it is used for its medicinal properties also. Cardamom can alleviate digestive problems, such as acidity, bloating, nausea, loss of appetite and constipation.It is also chewed after meals for freshening up breath and it really aids in digestion also.It has got diuretic properties, which makes cardamom a good detoxification agent.
Cumin contains iron, manganese, phosphorous, Vitamins A, C and B6.One teaspoon of cumin contains 1.4 mg of iron.It is known to be helpful in digestive disorders.In fact in can rev up digestion.It helps in secretion of digestive enzymes and increase bile secretion.Bile helps in digestion of fats and proteins.
This spice is used in Mexican, Indian as well as middle eastern dishes. This is used in all Indian curries.Cumin contains plant compounds such as terpenes, phenols, flavonoids which act as antioxidants.Cumin may be helpful in reducing cholesterol and glucose levels.
Cinnamon is used in many cuisines in savory as well as sweet dishes. It has got rich flavor as well exotic taste. It just changes the level of taste of the dish. And I think it is due to cinnamon.This bark of tree of genus of laurel family is a great antioxidant.It is rich in iron,manganese, zinc, calcium.Cinnamon can lower blood glucose making it beneficial in diabetes.
Cinnamon also helps in lowering cholesterol.It can be used to reduce harmful bacteria in teeth due to its antibacterial properties.Cinnamon also provides benefits for bone health.
Coriander seeds are a must in any pantry. Along with fresh and rich taste, they provide relief in digestive problems.Coriander leaves makes dishes stand out by imparting them fresh aroma and great aesthetic quality.It contains caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid which imparts antioxidant properties to coriander.
Some researches have proved that coriander leaves have anticancer properties. Beta carotene, vitamins C and E, caffeic acid, kaempferol are considered to be responsible for anticancer properties of coriander.

Fennel seeds are carminative, diuretic and digestive in nature.They are also used as lacta gogue.
Fennel seeds contain dietary fiber, potassium , antioxidants , copper, iron, selenium, manganese , magnesium.Copper is required for the production of red cells.Vitamins like A C and B complex are concentrated in fennel.Fennel seeds are used in case of indigestion and gastric problems. It is also used in the concoction made for relief of chest congestion.
Dishes having fennel seeds have distinct flavor.It is specially used in pumpkin sweet and sour curry.I always use it in my tea and love the milk simmered with fennel seeds.
