Depressing thoughts need to be tamed. At some point in life, we all need some kind of motivation to uplift our thoughts. Sometimes we don’t feel inspired to do even simple tasks. When you feel like this, you have to find ways how to overcome negative thoughts and bring your life back to normal.
Everything seems to be so difficult, all you want is lie in bed and shutting yourself from the world. There comes the magic of shifting your thought patterns. You need to work on the way you feel and think.
All this happens when your inner self is not synchronous with your outer self. You feel something else and do something else. It happens when you don’t see results the way you want. You feel those bouts of depression will resolve by itself as you wait for everything to become normal.
But that is not the case. Use some of these below-written techniques. This is not something rocket science, but are effective if done regularly.
How to overcome negative thoughts and stay positive always
1. Be mindful of your circumstances
You have to be mindful of your present situation. You will be more depressed if you will not pay attention to your present. These episodes don’t resolve by itself. You have to make an effort to change the thinking process. In difficult time you want to lie in bed and wait for this time to pass.
But depression breeds more depression. The best option is to start feeling good (Which is difficult in this situation). But you are the only person who can change this. Start small. Start by saying that you are happy. Your present is good. Even if you don’t feel like. Here are some very simple positive affirmations which you can use.
- I am the happiest person of this world.
- My body is as healthy as I want.
- I am a unique personality.
- My life is shaping the way I want. (Even if it is not)
- This universe is providing me with the most beautiful things of life.
You can say whatever you want. It should be positive and the way you want your life. Keep positive quotes and positive affirmations in front of your eyes. Stick them to your fridge, in front of your bed, on the bathroom mirror, to remind yourself to be positive.
2. Go outside to meet sun
Yes, going out is very important. Sunny days make us feel good. Gloomy days make us more depressed. If you have a beautiful day outside, go out even if you don’t want to.
You will feel in harmony with the surroundings. Trees plants flowers will help you in feeling the goodness of time. You will feel your inner self along with the chirping birds.
3. Meet Your friends
Remember the days when you cannot stay without your friends. You felt so happy. Meeting old friends make our days bright. When I feel like this I always call my friends. It is easy with technology to connect. Though we all are far away from each other in different countries, we still connect with each other.
It is easy if you have your local friends. You can catch up with them and feel good. Have a virtual coffee and enjoy your evening.
4. Write down how you are feeling
Writing down your problems will help you in identifying the problem area. It becomes easy after that. Sometimes you just don’t know why you are feeling so low.
You can work on the area where you are getting depressed only if you know. If something is bothering you, try to find a solution to the problem. Talk to your loved ones. If you cannot find a solution, just leave it, or put it on paper to come at that problem later.
Don’t overthink it, adjust your inner feelings. If you feel like you are not getting what you want. Just think that you are destined for a better reward than what you want. Believe me, these thoughts have the power to catapult your thinking.
5. How to overcome negative thoughts by adjusting your desires
Sometimes you don’t get what you want. It happened with me also. I was working hard but was not getting results. But I always remember the words from one of my college teacher ‘Hard work never goes unpaid’. Really it pays you in a better way but not at the same time.
Be patient and try to resolve your depressing thoughts. Try not to get stuck in your negative thoughts. Adjust your thinking about what you want. Maybe the universe wants to give you a better gift than what you want.
6. Meditate with beautiful thoughts
This is very important if you want to have a beautiful life. Depressing thoughts make you miserable, life feels useless and the worse part is you don’t feel your mindful of your present.
And you can. Because this is the only moment in our hands. Past has gone, you cannot change. You don’t know about the future. The present is all yours. So make it good.
Meditate on beautiful thoughts. Start with a single beautiful thought. Run it in your mind with good feeling. You will definitely start feeling better.
7. Help somebody in need
Helping someone will take your thoughts off from yourself and you start feeling needed. You will start feeling your worth by doing something good to another person.
Helping somebody always help in altering your thoughts. When you help somebody you automatically feel better.
8. Go to Watch funny movie
You can watch movies at home. But better if you go out. It makes you happy. There you meet other people and see happy people. It shifts your attention from your depressing thoughts towards happy thoughts.( this one is not possible at present, you can watch something at home)
9. Have Good diet
Never miss your meals. Having a good and nutritious diet is also important in fighting depression. While feeling depressed you just want to gulp down carbohydrates and sugary treats.
Instead of that eat healthy food as foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin B are known to fight depression.
A nutritious diet also gives you ample antioxidants to counteract the effects of depression. When you eat good, you feel good.

10. Start exercising
Exercise is important for providing your body with feel-good hormones. Go out for a run. Or a brisk walk. When you have depressed thoughts it is better to go out than the gym. This is what I feel. Otherwise, just exercise as you want. It will definitely make you happy. And shifts you from depressing thoughts to positive thoughts.
Go for exercise even if you don’t want to. This can help you boost your self-confidence and help to overcome the negative thoughts.
11. Don’t play the victim and take responsibility for your life
You are what you thought and said in the past. To change your future, you have to change your present. Take responsibility for your thoughts and actions. You are not the product of your circumstances.
12. Take professional help
If nothing helps, please take professional help. It is important to tame this problem before it becomes a disease. Talk about your problems. Explain them as clearly as you can. So that you will be provided with the solution as early as possible.
- Start feeling good about your self.
- Go out in sunlight.
- Eat nutritious food.
- Meditate on good thoughts.
- Go watch comedy movies.
- Talk to friends and family.
